iearn Collaboration Centre

Media iearn is a website that allows people from all over the world to work on various projects. By picking a project that interests you and applying your natural talents, you can be part of something great. Books are illustrated and written, history is researched, etc... Media iearn allows you to be a creator of a project or jump in with someone else. You can choose the appropriate age bracket. Teachers, parents, and students collaborated to create projects and work together. It is truly a global affair. Projects must be submitted for review, and it is recommended you participate in a project before beginning your own.

Having students collaborate together on projects that span the globe is a fantastic idea to open students' eyes to a global worldview. My previous teaching job was in a very rural community where most students had never left their small town and few had internet at home. iEarn projects can connect them to other students all over the world. There are several music related projects that my band students could have been involved in and I'm sure would have enjoyed participating in.

Wow, what a great collaborative world wide project site. This site has very interesting projects, shared by others or you can create your own. Anyone can join a project with anyone around the world, having different perspectives to produce a project is valuable. I found a great math project for third grade students to participate in that correlates real life circumstances. The math project relates math to family living styles and their communities.

Collaboration is key for students to be successful whether it is school or their future employment. The ability to globally collaborate to work on and complete projects would be beneficial to any student. As a science teacher, I can think of any number of projects that my students would benefit from by using this Web 2.0 tool.

iearn is a wonderful way to include our local community as well as connecting with another culture. This could be a group project in which parents, students, teachers, and administrators all contribute to the projects. What a wonderful way to volunteer our time and teach students the importance of contributing to our world.

I have made my pre-calculus class do a mathematics history paper at the end of the year. They are given a list of names to choose from and then are required to research that person as well as stating the mathematicians accomplishments and a real world application of their discoveries. I would love the opportunity to hear from students in Germany about Gauss or from France about Legendre and how those great mathematicians are viewed in the part of the world they grew up in.

One Day in the Life would be a great way for students to highlight something in their daily journals. Choose one or two days that they think are special, and post them online. Cool!
