One World Classrooms

One World Classrooms
The mission of One World Classrooms is to foster cross-cultural understanding in the context of the K-12 curriculum by building bridges of learning between the classrooms of the world through arts and technology. They offer password-protected, curriculum-based free online travel and a variety of opportunities for K-12 classrooms to interact with overseas partners.

This website enables students to share artwork, music, media, fieldtrips, a language lab and the opportunity to create fundraisers to help schools overseas.

A favorite area is the Field Trips in the classroom. You can create your own city and place it on site, and also take other trips to other classes that participate in the projects.

I would love to use One World Classrooms in my Social Studies lessons. One of our major (yet broad) S.S. standards is to "3.1.01 Understand the diversity of human cultures." Where do you being with a standard like that? The answer is One World Classrooms. We could take virtual field trips to different states and/or counrties, or ask questions to third graders of different cultures to compare and contrast our life styles to theirs.

One World Classroom would be a great asset to the classroom. It is free to become a member and the website is easy to navigate.

The website would be great to use to expose students to a different culture. Powerpoints with pictures, stories, and videos are great virtual trips for students who otherwise wouldn't get a chance to learn about another country.

I am so ecstatic that One World Classrooms exists. To be able to have students share their written word with others is one thing, but to share it with anyone from anywhere is another. To be able to carry conversations about cultures, music, medias, and artwork is tremendous. We can experience so much about language and literature. It definitely opens my "no trips" policy given by my administration due to lack of funds.

One World is a great site! Not only does it address diversity and cultural awareness it also encourages creativity and artistic expression. Being able to exchange ideas (both written and artistic) with students from across the globe would enhance any learning activity in any classroom. I love the idea that students could draw pictures or choose music and exchange them with another class in another country. How interesting would it be to see and hear how others interpret the world around them?

Wouldn't it be great if students could discuss Shakespeare with others from around the world? The they would get to see how great literature can be related to any time and place or people. This site would allow them to do just that. It would expand their horizons and expose them to all sorts of cultures and ideas that they haven't yet learned about.

Due to budget restrictions, field trips are a luxury these days. This tool will come in handy for virtual travel. The number of destinations is greatly increased as well
